What is the power of Pine Sol?

Intensity apparently.

How many of you have seen this recent campaign for Pine Sol? It caught my eye while flipping through People magazine. I mean, it’s hilarious. There she is, Diane Amos (the Pine Sol lady!), trying to seduce a viewer into buying Pine Sol. What?!

This woman has starred in ads and commercials for nearly twenty years. She’s become completely recognizable over the years. These executions have been positioned differently than I have ever seen any type of cleaning product.

We all know, Pine Sol is lemony-fresh.. It has the powerful scent of clean.. Real clean.. No match for the power of 2.. Powerful difference.. These slogans have been drilled into our heads as consumers. It’s what we have attached ourselves to as the brand’s personality. Maybe they were just looking to generate buzz?

It worked.. Here I am talking about it. How can you get this image out of your mind after you see it? And furthermore, how can you not tell someone about it?

But… how is the average consumer supposed to connect to this ad? Is it building brand recall or recognition? I’d have to argue neither, but maybe I’m missing the connection. Are they well put together? Yeah! The executions themselves are brilliant. The positioning however… hm.

The campaign has evolved into much more than just a few simple print executions. You have got to check out this commercial spot.

I mean come on! It’s hilarious.. It’s racy.. it’s risky.. it’s clever.. Love it.

The Introduction:

Posted in Uncategorized by dnpadv on November 12, 2009

Hello All!

Okay, so maybe the first post is just a little info about me? The name’s Delia and I am currently a senior advertising student at WVU. What do I care about? Well, it’s pretty simple.. Advertising. You know,  creating opinions. Drawing out emotion. Generating lasting resonance. I want to create the BIG idea. I’m searching for followers that share a similar passion.

Okay, okay. So I can’t just be all about advertising, right? I enjoy brisk fall days, macaroni and cheese, and joking around with my friends. I have a stalker. It’s cute really. I spend a lot of time working, I guess you could say I’m an over achiever. Which is fine.. I work hard and I’m constantly stressed, but I love every second of it. I’m the President of WVU’s Advertising Club, which consumes a lot of my extra time. I’m currently enrolled in 18 credit hours.. why I did that to myself I’ll never know. Yeah, I’m that annoying person in the front of the classroom answering all the questions. Eh, I’m fine with it.

I’m addicted to Froggy 98, aka the BEST country radio station out there. That’s pretty much all I listen to in the car, where I spend a lot of time. I’m from New Jersey, and the drive from WV to NJ feels like a voyage at times. After 4 years you get pretty used to it. I live about 30 minutes outside of NYC. Mmhmm!  Love that! I’m constantly roaming around the city anticipating moving there. Oh, and I love Braodway, especially musicals. Definately addicted, but worth every penny.

If you couldn’t tell, I have an extremely addictive personality, and my memory is CRAZY. I am ADDICTED to coffee. So much so that I actually had to give it up. That was rough. I’m devoted to Smart Start cereal (pretty much the only thing I’ll eat in the morning) and my mom’s homemade casserole. I’m 100% Ukrainian, which is probably the best nationality ever because of 1 thing: PIEROGIES. And I’m talking homemade.. not that JUNKIE Mrs. T’s crap! OH, and I love old movies, ( esp. musicals), Black & White classics.. yup.

So what’s this blog about? Probably a mix of advertising in today’s society, changing media, design, and culture. But why would this be interesting enough for you to follow? Creative flare. The transformation of the things we see everyday. That’s the “So What?” factor. Hopefully what I have to say will be compelling enough to get you to come back… again and again. Maybe post a few comments. Lay it out on the table, say what you need to say!

Look back soon for more!
